Jesus Junkie – A Christian Lo-Fi Song

In honor of my Christian roots I remembered a song I wrote and recorded on a 4 track cassette deck about 2001 or something.  Oh I remember the song because my daughter likes to remind me of it.

Yes… It is a catchy song.

I remember I busted out the entire chord progression and lyrics in about an hour or so… I fired up the 4 track and the song had basic guitar and vocal tracks laid down an hour later…  Then when I got the chance to set up the drums for multiple tracks on several songs I layed down the drums in one take.

At the time I was studying the Bible rather intensely and was in a program of reading the New Testament over and over.. 1 book at a time. I was not going to church or anything but rather on a personal quest to discover what it is I believe and why.

This Quest continues of course…. The “Search” in itself is much of the excitement  in spiritual living.

As I listen to the song,  I can’t help but agree with much of my assessment and  beliefs at the time.

Sure, It’s “fundamental bible thumping“  But is being “addicted to Jesus” a bad thing?  Being loved and “given everything even tho I don’t deserve it”  certainly sounds like a ‘Bargain’ -  Similar to what The Who said on their classic record  Who’s Next.

The recording is pretty good actually. Lo-Fi… Perhaps I’ll bring this song back to life again sometime with my new recording gear as I slowly lay down tracks on many of my old songs and write a few new ones… My goal is to get a decent record together by Christmas as I have done in years past.

Dedications

  • Jesus – That guy has been looking after this kid a long time
  • Courtney – My kid who constantly reminds me this is a catchy song
  • Dennis – Who out of sheer generosity helped me out of a bind the very day this post was crafted.

Don’t believe in Jesus? Remember – He is the most influential guy of all time.  That fact alone deserves respect… You dig?
